A senior person at a local council who is responsible for making sure that everything the council does, or proposes to do, is legal. The law says that every council must have a monitoring officer. If you think that something your council is doing is against the law, you can contact the monitoring officer. Your council's legal department will be able to tell you who this person is and how to contact them.
