Any information stored on a computer that is not the computer code. Data can be either structured or unstructured. Structured data is sometimes called records and can be organised and used for multiple purposes, whereas unstructured data is normally used for a single purpose and includes documents, pictures, videos or sound recordings. SNOMED CT, which provides the structured codes used in electronic health record systems, is an example of structured data.
