The Freedom of Information Act 2000 provides the public access to official information held by public authorities. It requires every public authority to have a publication scheme, approved by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), and to publish information covered by the scheme. A publication scheme is a guide to the official information an organisation holds and routinely makes available such as who they are and what they do, how they spend their money etc.
