A thorough examination or evaluation.

A record that can be interpreted by auditors to establish that an activity has taken place. This might include user login, file access, printing and triggers that indicate whether any actual or attempted security violations occurred.

A check to make sure that care is being provided in the way that it should be. An audit lets the care provider and people who use the service know what is being done well and where there could be improvements.
