A senior person in an NHS organisation or local council who is responsible for making sure that your personal health and care information is kept confidential, and is not shared with anyone who does not need to see it. The law says that all NHS organisations and councils that provide social care services must have a Caldicott guardian. The name comes from the person who chaired a government review of confidential information in the 1990s, Dame Fiona Caldicott.
