Adult Social Care Glossary, v 0.6

Basic digital literacy skills are needed by every citizen to become 'digitally literate'.

The particular abilities in the use of technology to support the safe and effective delivery of care services and/or to enable a member of the social care workforce to fulfil other aspects of their role. Examples of these skills may include: - use of software applications - how to safely handle information and communicate electronic information - safe use of the internet and social media - connecting to others through video calls and other online services - understanding the ethical aspects associated with introducing and using digital technology.

This framework is intended to be used by everyone in the UK involved in supporting adults to improve their essential digital skills.

The Digital Skills Framework covers seven key themes for effective digital working and can help people working in adult social care to develop their digital skills. It can be also used alongside training courses on the digital skills resource page.

The framework has been published in draft. More detail, including specific skills and capabilities for each theme, will be added once we have tested them further and based on feedback.

A collection of resources that define what the digital capabilities are, while providing examples and tools to help social workers be confident using digital technology and data to support their increasingly complex role.

Good Things Foundation has launched the new Learn My Way. If you’re not familiar with it, Learn My Way is their fantastic, free, platform that supports people to learn essential digital skills. They’ve developed an updated website that:

* Offers bitesize digital learning
* Supports people with the basics including using your device, starting to go online, staying safe and using email; through to working online, using social media and managing your health and money online.
* Provides a great user experience
* Is easy to digest, and works across multiple devices
* Allows learners to pick and choose content to meet their needs.
